Stanislav Kislyuk is a renowned aquarist. He got his first aquarium when he was just 4 years old! Stanislav has been fascinated by fish his whole life and has kept a lot of different species. During his PhD he had an opportunity to work on Danio rerio to prove its value as a model for human blood-brain-barrier.

Stanislav’s first specialization were Lake Victoria cichlids, before shifting his focus towards Central & West African Fish. He is particularly interested in keeping and breeding of barbs, tetras and labyrinth fish. During multiple trips to Africa and South-East Asia Stanislav personally collected many of fish inhabiting his aquarium cellar with appr. 7000l. During those trips he rediscovered several species known only from scientific literature and managed to introduce them into hobby. So far, he visited 44 countries.

Among others he was first to breed Alestopetersius cf. hilgendorfi, Bathyaethiops baka, Nannopetersius lamberti, Nanochromis sp. “Ngoko”, Phenacogrammus aurantiacus and a dwarf horseface loach species from Cambodia. Also, he discovered a new Danio species in Cambodia and successfully bred them. In July 2024 he was elected to group leader for barbs at IG BSSW.
